Here’s my new tunic, from the September 2007 edition of Knipmode. Knipmode is a Dutch pattern magazine and is not available in English. Since I don’t read Dutch I just had to figure out the pattern on my own. It’s not a difficult pattern to do without directions–just a basic tunic similar to many I’ve seen lately in stores. I only had to do a couple of alterations on it–I made the yoke’s neckline a little higher for more coverage and I did a square shoulder alteration. I did a traditional big arm alteration, but in retrospect I would have added width the entire length of the sleeve from the shoulder to the wrist because of my square shoulder alteration. The way I did the alteration, I ended up with fewer pleats at the shoulder of my tunic than the pattern called for.
I used a thin green cotton jersey with a faint red floral from the bargain table at G Street Fabrics. The red and green makes it a little bit Christmas-sy but not so much so that I won’t be able to wear this at other times of the year.
This is my first time using or even looking at a Knipmode magazine and I was really impressed. The sizing is slightly different than Ottobre or Burda (I think I started with a 40 rather than a 42) and the styles are very cute and wearable.
