Here’s the finished laundry bag for Mr. GC:

He loves it (I wasn’t sure how he would like it). It was a fun and very easy project. I cut off the sleeves of two old oxford shirts and then sewed up the holes along the flat felled seam line. I then buttoned the shirts together and sewed them together along the topstitching of the front plackets. I turned the shirts inside out and sewed up the bottoms of the shirts to make a bag. I made a drawstring by cutting strips from one of the sleeves (I believe they were 1 1/4 inches wide and I sewed several together end-to-end until I got a drawstring the length I wanted. I folded the long strip in half and sewed from one end to the other, leaving an opening in the middle so I could turn the ends of the drawstring with my fasturn tool. I was originally going to cut holes in the collar stand and use that as my casing, but instead I decided to stitch the collars to the shirts along their topstitching and use the collars as the casings. I fed the drawstring through with a safety pin and then knotted the ends together to form a loop. I’m happy with the result and, like I said before, Mr. GC loved it. I suppose it’s a joke –a laundry bag made from old laundry–or would that be postmodern and ironic . . .
